Symptom map
Location, intensity, numbness, tingling, and weakness help define the pattern.
Sciatica & Nerve Symptoms
Start Here
People often use “sciatica” for any pain that travels into the leg. The pattern can come from several sources, and the same is true for symptoms that travel from the neck into the arm.
We map the symptom, test strength and sensation, and see how repeated positions or movements change it. The result helps us decide what can be trained and what may need medical follow-up.
Common Presentations
Nerve-related symptoms can include more than pain.
What We Assess
The examination checks the spine, nerve pathway, strength, sensation, movement, and the behavior of symptoms under repeated activity.
Location, intensity, numbness, tingling, and weakness help define the pattern.
We check whether positions and repeated movements move, reduce, or increase symptoms.
Changes between sides can help identify the need for medical follow-up or a different loading plan.
Sitting, walking, lifting, sleeping, and work demands guide what returns first.
The Rehab Process
01
Use positions and movements that make daily activity more manageable without shutting everything down.
02
Load the spine and limb according to the exam and how symptoms respond.
03
Progress sitting, walking, lifting, training, or work until the plan holds up outside the clinic.
New loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin or saddle area, rapidly worsening weakness, or severe symptoms after major trauma need urgent medical evaluation.
Common Questions
No. Several back, hip, muscle, and nerve problems can send symptoms into the leg. The exam helps narrow the likely source and the safest next step.
Many people can begin with a clinical evaluation. Imaging may be useful when the history, weakness, trauma, or progress suggests it could change medical management.
Complete rest is rarely the long-term plan. We find tolerable activity and adjust the dose while the evaluation guides what should be loaded.
