Athlete beginning rehabilitation after elbow surgery

Post-operative physical therapy

YOUR SURGERY HAS A PROTOCOL. YOUR RETURN NEEDS A PLAN.

We handle the weeks after surgery, the strength work that follows, and the final push back to work, training, or sport.

THE WORK SHOULD CHANGE AS YOU HEAL.

Early rehab protects the repair. Later rehab has to prepare you for the forces, speed, and repetition waiting outside the clinic.

01

First days and weeks

Protect the repair

Follow the surgeon’s restrictions, settle swelling, restore motion, and keep the rest of your body active.

02

Early and middle rehab

Rebuild strength

Load increases as the tissue heals. Your program grows with it, instead of repeating the same light work for months.

03

Later rehab

Train the task

Work shifts, lifting, running, cutting, jumping, and throwing enter the plan before you need them at full speed.

04

Before full return

Test the return

We measure the strength and tasks tied to your goal, then use those results to decide what comes next.

REHAB HAS TO LEAVE THE TREATMENT TABLE.

The first phase may be quiet and clinical. As you heal, the work should start looking more like your job, your training, or your sport.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU START?

If your situation does not fit neatly here, a consultation is the easiest place to sort it out.

Can I start right after surgery?

Yes. We can begin with the early restrictions from your surgeon and progress the plan as healing permits. You can also meet with us before surgery to talk through the first few weeks.

What if I am already months into rehab?

You can start with us at any point. We will look at what has healed, what is still limited, and what your work, training, or sport will require from you.

Will you follow my surgeon’s protocol?

Yes. We review the procedure and the surgeon’s restrictions. When useful, we can also communicate with the surgical team about your progress.

Do I need to be an athlete?

No. Your goal may be work, stairs, hiking, lifting, playing with your kids, or competing again. The plan should prepare you for the life you are going back to.
